Just Keep Sewing ~ Jinja, Uganda Days 5 & 6

As our MoonCatchers travel far and wide throughout Uganda

Sewing is the name of the game for this next journey.

Uganda Day 5

     MoonCatchers was on the move today driving many hours eastward with the eventual destination of Jinja. We spent the first part of the day at Phoebe’s cooperative measuring fabric and counting tyvek to be sure we’d be ready for all the sewing guilds that we we will visit during the next few days.

     Phoebes’ car crammed with supplies, we headed for our friend Fred’s sister’s house several hours outside Kampala. We were greeted by Alice and her son Dan who sat with us and talked about how to start a sewing guild in their village

…and how to reach girls in 7 area schools (over 1,000 girls)!

This was a very productive meeting, and we are well on our way to making this happen.

Uganda Day 6

     We headed for the Bugembe sewing guild today to meet the three women who run this project which is financed by AOET.  Nelly, Hope and Carol met us at the gate and welcomed us to the beautiful building that houses the guild. We sat on the front porch and talked about the sewing guild’s progress and what we can do to help make the work move more smoothly.

There is nothing like a face to face meeting and several problems came to light that can now be easily solved.

There was also a lot of laughter as we exchanged information about lives in our two countries. They showed us the bag of 500 completed pads that are now ready to be delivered.

The afternoon was spent in Jinja buying baskets, earrings, necklaces, etc to sell at Moonbees to raise money for The Mooncatcher Project.
