7 women showed up today to sew. Two of them hadn’t come yesterday so we had to work hard to get them up to speed.
We had everyone try the treadle machines by practicing stitching designs drawn on paper. We were quickly able to see who could sew and who did better at tracing and cutting. By the end of the day we had two carriers made and hundreds of parts cut.
Dorothy, using our one electric machine but having no sewing experience, was trying to follow the lines we drew on paper
Phoebe and I spent lunch coming up with a plan to make this project work and met with Jackie who runs K2-TASO to ask for her help. She will come with us on Thursday to source fabrics etc. in Lilongwe and has agreed to oversee the project for us here.

I think I’ll sleep soundly tonight knowing that a few things are in place. I want to leave this country knowing that this new sewing guild will survive and prosper.
