St. Mary's School girls with Ellie - The Mooncatcher Project

Mooncatchers in Uganda Day 2

March 9, 2017 0 comments Article Uganda Maureen

Ellie, Maureen & Phoebe visit St. Mary’s and St. Kizito Schools

What an amzaing day!  We woke up to rain and found we were even a little chilly, but as the day wore on the sun came out and our sweaters came off.

We started our work at St. Mary’s school where we spoke to 250 girls.

You’ll observe the condition of the school in the backdrop of this photo.  St. Mary’s is like many other schools we visit.   We are so proud that now the girls attending St. Mary’s have a chance to prosper to their fullest potential.

Phoebe led the class and engaged all the girls in conversation about menstration.

Education is a critical component to the Mooncatcher mission.

As always she spoke to the students about their visions and told them that staying in school was a path to realizing a better future.

Maureen and I did our parts with calendars, excercises and showing everyone what our kit looks like and how to take care of it.

We did the same thing in the afternoon at St. Kizito School. The smiles on the faces of all these girls reminded us again of how important an incredibly satisfying this work is.

Mid day we met with the director of the Peace Corps Uganda

who was very gracious and interested in our mission. It looks like Phoebe will have an opportunity to speak to some Peace Corps volunteers later in the month. We are hoping that our design will be useful in small villages throughout the country.
