We flew into Lilongwe airport mid day, made our way through customs, visa procurement, baggage claim and money exchange. Phoebe showed up while we were in line for our visas. Yippee!
The road to Mtunthama is one of the prettiest drives I’ve ever taken. The brillant blue sky was filled with those big white Colorado type cloud masterpieces. Everything is green and lush after a really good rainy season. Lots of people were dressed in purple for Good Friday and we even passed a “walk of the cross.”
Saint Andrews hospital compound is where we are in Mtunthama. Besides a hospital there’s a church, grammar school, secondary school, orphanage and housing for teachers and hospital staff. We are staying in one of those houses with a lovely Malawian family who seem to anticipate our every need. So dear.
Tomorrow Phoebe and I will set up our sewing center and evaluate what we still need to make it work. We have asked to go to 2-3 schools, talk with teachers and go on a buying trip to try to find fabrics, etc. for our MoonCatcher pads. There are 16 people here, mostly doing medical things but each with a special interest. I am hoping to see some of their projects but our time is so full that I’m not sure how much of this we will get to.

I love and admire the hopefulness and ambition of every trip to Africa, and the wonderful welcome the MoonCatcher Project teams earn everywhere.
